About the Department

Established in 2010, the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Angadi Institute of Technology and Management (AITM), Belagavi, is dedicated to excellence in engineering education, research, innovation and professional development. The department has evolved into a center of academic excellence, providing students with a strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering while fostering technical competence, ethical values and lifelong learning.

The department offers a NBA Accredited B.E. Program in Mechanical Engineering with an intake of 60 students, an M.Tech. Program in Production Engineering & System Technology established in 2014, and a VTU Recognized Research Centre established in 2018 for doctoral and advanced research activities.

Supported by experienced and well qualified faculty members, the department provides a conducive learning environment through modern laboratories, advanced computational facilities, and industry-relevant infrastructure. The curriculum is enriched through project-based learning, internships, industrial visits, expert lectures, and collaborative activities with industries and professional bodies, enabling students to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

The department actively promotes research, innovation, and entrepreneurship by encouraging faculty and students to undertake funded projects, publish research papers in reputed journals, file patents, and participate in national and international technical competitions. Through continuous interaction with industry and academia, students gain exposure to emerging technologies and contemporary engineering practices.

Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Angadi Institute of Technology and Management (AITM), Belagavi.

Since its inception in 2010, the Department has been committed to providing quality engineering education, fostering innovation, and developing competent professionals capable of meeting the challenges of a rapidly evolving technological world. Our NBA Accredited Undergraduate Program, supported by experienced faculty, modern laboratories, and industry-oriented learning practices, equips students with strong technical knowledge and practical skills.

The Department offers a conducive environment for academic excellence through its M.Tech. Program in Production Engineering & System Technology and a VTU Recognized Research Centre, promoting advanced learning, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Students are encouraged to participate in internships, industry collaborations, technical competitions, and research activities that enhance their professional competence and leadership abilities.

Program Specific Outcomes [PSOs]

PSO 1. Apply the fundamentals of mathematics, engineering sciences and principles of mechanical engineering (design, thermal sciences, fluid mechanics, manufacturing, etc.) to analyse, design and optimize engineering systems and industrial processes.

PSO 2. Apply the knowledge of automation, robotics, CAD/CAM, mechatronics, material science, renewable energy, EV, AI, IOT, etc. to develop pragmatic solutions for mechanical and interdisciplinary engineering applications to bolster the careers of students in industry, research and entrepreneurship.

PSO 3. Cultivate ethical and universal human values, and imbibe management techniques to cater to the needs of industry and society at large.

PEO1. Apply the fundamentals of mathematics, science and mechanical engineering concepts to analyse, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems in industries, research and academia.

Program Outcomes [POs]

PO1: Engineering Knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics, natural science, computing, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization as specified in WK1 to WK4 respectively to develop to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2: Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions with consideration for sustainable development. (WK1 to WK4).

PO3: Design/Development of Solutions: Design creative solutions for complex engineering problems and design/develop systems/components/processes to meet identified needs with consideration for the public health and safety, whole-life cost, net zero carbon, culture, society and environment as required. (WK5).

PO4: Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: Conduct investigations of complex engineering problems using research-based knowledge including design of experiments, modelling, analysis & interpretation of data to provide valid conclusions. (WK8).

PO5: Engineering Tool Usage: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering & IT tools, including prediction and modelling recognizing their limitations to solve complex engineering problems. (WK2 and WK6).

PO6: The Engineer and the World: Analyze and evaluate societal and environmental aspects while solving complex engineering problems for its impact on sustainability with reference to economy, health, safety, legal framework, culture and environment. (WK1, WK5, and WK7).

Knowledge and Attitude Profile (WK)

WK1: A systematic, theory-based understanding of the natural sciences applicable to the discipline and awareness of relevant social sciences.

WK2: Conceptually-based mathematics, numerical analysis, data analysis, statistics and formal aspects of computer and information science to support detailed analysis and modelling applicable to the discipline.

WK3: A systematic, theory-based formulation of engineering fundamentals required in the engineering discipline.

WK4: Engineering specialist knowledge that provides theoretical frameworks and bodies of knowledge for the accepted practice areas in the engineering discipline; much is at the forefront of the discipline.

WK5: Knowledge, including efficient resource use, environmental impacts, whole-life cost, re-use of resources, net zero carbon, and similar concepts, that supports engineering design and operations in a practice area.
